Cake icing

photo%203Really good to see so many schools able to attend the Mike Hughes INSET day on Friday. With 190 people attending, the centre would have been too jampacked so we decamped to Gisborough Hall.

Mike expertly mixed a series of anecdotal incidents with examples from research findings to focus delegates on what makes the ‘icing’ on the cake of good teaching. What do outstanding teachers do that makes them…er…stand out? It was clear that there was something for everyone to reflect on during the course of the day.

With such a large number of teachers, headteachers and teaching assistants in one room it was always going to be a challenge to keep everyone engaged (not occupied!) but with lots of time for talk and frequent group tasks the feeling in the room was kept focussed though light hearted. photo%201

Mike was asked to run this workshop day as a response to his session at the recent school leaders’ conference. The centre was able to follow up on this request from the Headteachers and arrange the day as they needed to accommodate such a large number of staff. We have similar joint training days for clusters of schools currently in preparation, please contact us if you would like us to arrange something to suit your needs.
